Hopscotch Migration

Last week, students played a game called "Hopscotch Migration" to help them see how humans can negatively impact our environment (SC science standard 4-2.6). Students pretended to be birds migrating south. Each hopscotch square represented a wetland they stopped off at on their way to rest and get food. As humans destroyed these wetlands to build housing developments, shopping centers, highways, etc. it became harder and harder for the "birds" to migrate South until eventually, they no longer could! We are also talking about ways humans POSITVELY impact the environment to try and offset the negatives.
