Off to the Magical Forest!

We had so much fun at the Magic Wood Forest Fair and we learned so much about landfills, recycling, how lumber is made into paper, and more!

The Many Faces of Wonder

 Hi. My name is Brandon and I’m going to tell you about the book wonder. We chose character traits for the characters in wonder. Via is loving, dependable, and she is responsible. I chose those character traits because via always puts august before her and she always has to do her homework and projects by herself.  Julian is a bully, and he is rude. I chose those because he laughed at august when he thought Jack’s name was Jack Will. August is nice, friendly, and he is funny. I chose those because in the story august is always talking and laughing with jack. August is the main character in wonder. This is what I have to tell you about wonder. 




Each class focused on a different character to describe with character traits. We had the character of Julian.

Week of September 22nd

Reading:   We will continue with our novel study on the book Wonder. We will also talking about having kindness/respect for others by reading books such as Little Blue and Little Yellow while discussing story elements.

Writing/Language:   We will continue our unit on types of letters by discussing the parts of a friendly letter. We will be writing letters to show appreciation and advice letters to younger grades helping them with their bullying questions!

Math: We will continue to practice our basic multiplication facts and be discussing strategies to subtract large numbers. Students will be required to study multiplication flash cards for ten minutes a night until they master their facts. Please initial their studying log nightly.

Science/Social Studies: In science we’ll begin our animal unit w/ classification. In SS we will continue in our explorers unit with the discoveries of the Spanish, English, and Portuguese. We will be writing explorer diaries and making explorer baseball/trading cards!   Anchor Down these Assessments/Due Dates We will also have a reading test Thursday on our Wonder vocab & character traits We will have a social studies test Friday on our early explorers. 100 Book Challenge Goals:            Good- 66 steps Better- 120 steps Captain of the Week:            Our Captain of the Week is Mason Elliot!! Mason is always on his best behavior       and is an extremely hard worker! He always displays the character traits of: respect, responsibility, cooperation, and patience. Keep it up! Dr. Patterson's Visit

Yesterday Dr. Patterson came to read to us  yesterday! He read us a book called Exclamation Mark by Amy Krouse Rosenthal about a misplaced exclamation mark learning that being different can be very exciting! This went along great with our "Choose Kind" PBL. We loved this story and Dr. Patterson coming to visit!!

Wonder of the Day

Today, students read the Wonder of the Day on Wonderopolis called "Are Animals Made of Meat?"


The students wrote on our classroom Twitter feed about what they learned, but below is what Dmitriy learned from this article!

I learned that many human beings are omnivores, which means we eat both plants and animals. Second thing I learned was that sometimes, certain cultures may use the term meat only to refer to the flesh of certain types of animals, such as cows, pigs, and sheep. The third thing I learned was the meat from a cow is known generally as beef. And the last thing I learned that the meat you eat on a regular basis probably comes from a few animals, such as cows, pigs, and chickens.
